DC Power Supplies: Switch-Mode vs. Linear

DC power supplies for research, electronics development, and automated testing in production environments are available in two different flavours: switch-mode or linear regulated. Both types supply DC power but the method how DC power is generated differs between them.

This white paper will give a short introduction into the different technologies, outline the pro’s and con’s for both approaches and finally lists applications where one of the technologies is more suitable.
